Valerie Neer

Valerie teaches math at a small high school in Santa Cruz, where she provides support to a variety of students, especially the LGBTQ+ community and the neurodiverse community. One of the things she loves best about the small school setting is getting to watch her students develop over multiple years. As a continuation of that, she loves mentoring Cal Teach students as they learn and progress as teachers. Students working with her have created special projects related to the mental health of students and teachers, and developed outreach programs to excite students about math and science. She enjoys birdwatching, hiking, reading and needlework.
