Cal Teach Professional Development Opportunities

Cal Teach is excited to announce that math teacher Valerie Neer (Cypress High School) is continuing to facilitate the participation of Cal Teach interns, graduates, and host teachers in teacher professional development events and opportunities during the 2020-2021 school year. We will list those events and opportunities (and other opportunities we hear about along the way) here!

Outside Intern/Job Opportunities

Cal Teach is often notified of outside opportunities such as internships, jobs, volunteering, and workshops that would be excellent supplemental experiences for Cal Teach students.

We will list current opportunities here for informational use. It is the responsibility of the student to apply to and follow up with these experiences. Cal Teach is happy to provide any documentation we may have that could be helpful for your application process.

Upcoming Professional Development Events
  • Harbor High School
    •  Harbor High School is looking to hire UCSC Cal Teach students as part time paraeducators to work as tutors for students in science and math — up to 17 hours a week, with flexible scheduling! If you are interested, please contact Emily Maddox (emaddox@ucsc.edu) and she will connect you with the Harbor High School principal to discuss the application process and details about the position.
  • GEAR UP
    • GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) hires college students to work in the local middle schools in the Pajaro Valley area as Academic Interns serving as tutors and advisors.As of 9/1/21, GEAR UP is hiring for 30 spots and reached out to Cal Teach UCSC if we had any interested students. This is a paid Internship program offering 16-18 hours of work a week at $16.00 per hour.Interested Cal Teach students should contact Victoria Vasquez-Alvarez (the Student Employment Coordinator at GEAR UP) directly at vvasque6@ucsc.edu or call at 831-227-3894.   • SFUSD Certificated Recruitment Announcement:
    • SFUSD continues to search for strong candidates for our 2021-2022 Certificated positions! In particular, we are looking to fill several openings in Special Education! We also have positions available in many additional areas and these can be accessed by visiting the website.
    • A Recruitment Webinar will be held on February 17th, 2022. This session is for individuals interested in current certificated, para, or sub-career opportunities with the San Francisco Unified School District. In this one-hour webinar, we’ll highlight SFUSD’s mission & vision, unique offerings and review our application and hiring process. We’ll also leave time to answer your questions about working in SFUSD.
  • iD Tech Summer Camp
    • iD Tech holds technology & STEM-focused summer education camps where you could be a Camp Director or Camp Instructor! This group specifically reached out to Cal Teach hoping to recruit our awesome Cal Teach students.
  • Environmental Education (K-12) Internships
    • There are all sorts of environmental education internships around our area! Many options are listed on UCSC Environmental Studies’ website.
  • Galileo Innovation Camp for Kids
    • This summer camp serves children ages Pre-K through 8th grade and holds themed or “major-focused” summer camp that focuses on innovation. Summer jobs are available at multiple locations. “Working at a Galileo camp means joining a vibrant educational movement”!
  • Lawrence Hall of the Sciences
    • The Lawrence Hall of the Sciences at UC Berkeley is on a mission to “inspire and foster learning of science and mathematics for all, especially those who have limited access to science.” They provide curriculum material, professional development programs, and and hands-on learning experiences from their science center. The Lawrence Hall of the Sciences offers both staff and student jobs – click the link above to learn about what current offerings are available!
  • Life Lab
    • Life Lab has organic gardening internships available all year long!
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium Internships
    • The aquarium often has great internships available.
